I’ve always been curious about my fortune and the future, whether through saju(Korean traditional fortune telling) or tarot. However, after I actually hear a “fortune,” I immediately become rational again.
That tension between wanting to believe in destiny and trying to stay logical has always fascinated me. So I turned that idea into a fortune-telling machine. I think of this process as a kind of Alchemy of Destiny.

In this device, you adjust four valves based on how you imagine your own future, and when you spin the roulette and stops it, a small aperture in the middle appears. When you move closer to that tiny opening, you can peek into the screen hidden inside and catch a glimpse of your fortune.

Roulette Disk Layers

This is a rough design for roulette disks. The biggest disk represents chance and the next represents intent. I want to interpret each concept into patterns. Also, the last disk on right side is just a plastic disk that has aperture with it so when the roulette stops, this space will show the hole that viewers would get closer and look into the box.

Title: Pawerball

Concept: I want to make interactive installation that playfully merges superstition theme with chance-based technology. A black cat character acts as a fortune teller that predicts Powerball numbers for the audience.

Interaction: On the screen, the black cat sits quietly, waiting for interaction. In front of the screen, there is a physical model featuring two cat paws. When an audience places their palms in front of the cat’s paws, the fortune-telling ritual begins. The cat senses the visitor’s presence for ten seconds and start showing 6 random numbers.
